Description: This track is a personal triumph as it has been more than 12 years since I have actually completed lyrics to a song. To this I say bravo and I will be churning out more message-driven music that can be danced to in many cases. Yes, 7/8 is a danceable time signature!

What was I thinking with a song title like this? Pretty simply that it is "Us", "We" as human beings that are responsible for the not so positive and downright evil doings in the world. The Devil is in us. The light of love is too, but that's for another song.

There was a moment I really was "searching for some answers" as to what was the "real reason" the race and class issue has such a grip on us as a society. "Questions" had to come first of course, but it required shedding my brainwashed mindset. It is astonishing to understand how little I have known about the world. I 'was' where "they" wanted me to be!

That journey has blown my mind and I can never be the person I once was as a result. Learning truth is, in a way, subjective depending on from where you received the information and objective by way of digging down into the research knowing no one source will do. Truth is "the "great de-programmer".

I had never known the richness of my heritage in the way I do now, which has also peaked my interest in the history of humanity. I now feel like a speck of dust, which is actually enlightening. I respect the strength, courage and conviction toward life from those who came before me. This directs me away from my old fears, "strengthened my endurance", answers have served to effect how I walk in this world!

Let us see that it is lies used by the powerful and absolutely corrupt that keep us apart and from our greatest experiences in this short life. It is with this sentiment that I simply say "do good things" because "what you reap is from what you sow". Karma is real. Respect it!

'Debut at The Golden State Theatre - Monterey" is a Lo Fi recording of a solo performance in November 2019 as the opening act for The Robert Cray Band.

The unique beauty of this live EP is actually the artist and audience relationship. The proximity of the Zoom recorder serves to enhance and lift the energy of this moment. That I was performing solo and that they liked what they were hearing perhaps afforded a connection that the audience knew I was clearly hearing them without their having to raise their voices (i.e. "I am too" while introducing the second song "So Glad I'm Here").

This performance was one of my best of all time. I had a strict 30 minute set/opportunity to play four songs in front of a packed audience that surely had never heard of me. I felt at home and sincerely welcomed on that stage on that night from my spontaneous 'ice-breaking" comment as soon as I walked on to enthusiastic cheers, plugged in and stated "I am NOT Robert Cray", with true concern that they might think I was.

This one will never happen again, obviously. What I proved to myself in those 30 minutes is that I don't need to feel like an imposter. Let your ears get used the sound recording "as it is" and it will all be fine, if not great!

And finally: I had completely forgotten that I had recorded this performance and happened upon it looking for things to purge from my iMac desktop as I prepare to make a permanent move to Hungary to rejoin my wife there. This recording is a self-reminder of why I have worked so many years to get better as a performing artist. It is my gift that I am meant to share.

With LOVE in all caps,

Garrick

As an instrumental track, this music represents two things: Perseverance and the struggle for morality in a decadent society.

The accompanying painting was created specifically for this music by Zsuzsanna Davis and inspired part of the title "Where Light Shines". This track is actually a part one and two and are greater as a whole. "Keep On" is part one and it's "A" section is based on a purposeful walking pace, the rhythm is decidedly funky. The "B" section of Keep On portrays tension, doubt, violence and fear. The "breakdown" or "C" section contains Zach's expression of healing, rest, meditation before going back into the fray and "keep going". There are strings underneath that serve to soften the harshness and starkness within the music.

Part two, "Where Light Shines", was based from the guitar riff that repeats throughout the entirety of the piece. So much "grows" from the simple repetition that is immediately joined by the gorgeous and comforting chimes which sound like rays of light. The melodic guitars offer comfort and direction on this brief journey. The African drums drive everything dynamically forward.

This release is my first new offering toward what will be the next body of work I call "The Dignity Project". I'm so grateful to have Zach's talent on display here as well as 3 other tracks that will be included in this project. I always had a lot of fun working with my son recording and performing music. It's probably to stand up as the greatest inspiration I could have ever experienced. I will continue my quest to be "his favorite guitarist" through continuing my work and praying for Zach's musical guidance for the rest of my days. - Garrick Davis - World Blues

"Acoustic Live: At The Freight" is a 2-track recorded production of Garrick Davis World Blues acoustic set performed for the John Lee Hooker Foundation Benefit Concert at Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, CA. on June 14, 2019.

I had been been involved within the organization by way of working with the students in the music program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, CA. Many of the students I was blessed to work with opened this star-studded multi-act show as an ensemble that I was proud to witness.

Following the students, I was joined by the masterful tabla drum player Tanmay Bichu, with whom I began working with in 2016 just prior to the performance and recording of the House Full of Friends" concert. Tanmay has performed with me in different lineups of the World Blues configurations, including the full 8-piece as well as in one of my all time favorite collaborations due to the improvisational freedom, "The World Blues Trio" of Tanmay and Zach Davis on keys.

In this simple setting of guitar and tabla(often with piano) is where the combination really shines as you will hear for yourself. Thanks to Lou Judson for releasing this recording to me so I can bring it to the public. It is very clear, dynamic and punchy!

I look forward to recording a full album with him someday, which will display more of the improvisation wonderment that comes out when given the time and space.

As in keeping with the spirit of the "benefit event", the John Lee Hooker Foundation will receive 10% from the sales of this production for the first year (8/22/20).

As with most of the Expose Your Self project, the lyrics were written after the music was produced but titles were already decided on for theme direction.

Recorded completely on a MacBook, we initially used the Garageband app until disaster struck and many original tracks were lost on a bad external hard drive. We then switched to Protools 7.4 saved what we could among the corrupted files and required another 2 years to complete the project.

We built the tracks up with the work of drummer Grant "Slam" Walthall and the keyboard work of Zach Davis, who was 15 at the time the album production began. Garrick layered electric and acoustic guitars.

Eventually Julia Harrell's added percussion and brought in guests performers which include Garrick's parents Ernest and Marie and "Cello" Joe Chang on the title track and the trippy, soaring mostly instrumental "Grey Sky". He added a great cello track to "Walking In To Heaven" but that was lost with the hard drive too.
